For many Chicagoans, Canada Goose coats are the uniform of winter. The down coats with fur hoods cost close to a $1,000—and now, their distinctive patches are being targeted by robbers.
Chicago police say Canada Goose jackets have been taken in six robberies since Tuesday. The spree began late Tuesday night in Hyde Park and continued with three more robberies Thursday morning. One robbery occurred in the 900 block of North Wells and another in the 900 block of North Larabee.
The most recent robbery happened here outside Lasalle II Magnet School just as school was starting for the day.
A victim tells NBC 5 he thought the car that sped past him was a parent who was running late for drop off, but instead the person who got out showed a gun and demanded his coat.
Police issued a community alert on Wednesday for three of the robberies. They now believe the same dark colored Audi was used by the same offenders in all of the robberies.
Janine Wilkin says the robberies make her think twice about wearing nice things.
"It’s super unfortunate," she said. "I feel safe most of the time but you keep hearing stories like this, so I feel like I'll be more cautious."

Others, however, like Jen Kripas, say you can’t live in fear.
"We have really good police officers, so I trust that they’ll get them," she said.
Police found the Audi used in the robberies Thursday abandoned in an alley.
